What is specialized reporting and its relevance to journalism students?

Bigger newspapers would have specialized reporting. Smaller ones don't have enough reporters, all reporters do all types of reporting at smaller papers. Specialized would be if a certain reporter always covered education. Or a certain reporter always covered crime, etc. It's relevant because if you are going to be a reporter, depending on where you will be working, you might want to try for a special type of reporting like I mentioned. Whatever interests you most.
